Easter is Resurrection—His
and ours.
While we face various difficulties and sometimes become depressed because of
them, we, as followers of Jesus, can say without hesitation that ultimately the
victory is ours. We know we have won. Because Jesus has won!
Can you possibly imagine the feelings of His close followers, those who loved
Him and were sometimes confused by what He said and did, but still loved Him,
and who saw Him arrested and then from a distance watched Him die, by inches.
A sob, a cry, a breath that He couldn’t fully take, blood dripping from His
hands—they watched Him die. And they hid and stuck together and passed
that Sabbath with no joy or hope, and then the next day, some had already left
and others were planning to leave, when suddenly He blew them away—by showing up
alive!
Can you possibly imagine their feelings? It took them awhile to figure it
out—hours, days, weeks, maybe longer. But they finally realized that He
had won. And that with Him, they would win.
That’s us! WE WILL WIN! And so there can be no reason not to reach
out to the undesirables, to HIS undesirables, to His poor and to His vulnerable
and to His hungry, to His undocumented and to His exploited and to His
strangers. They are His, they are Him. And so they will win too.
