World Mission Sunday, October 18
My Dear People of God,
At Baptism, each of us becomes a missionary called by our Lord to share our faith with those around us, and to be part of the Church’s mission to the world. Jesus, Himself, before He returned to the Father, promised His followers the Holy Spirit, and charged them with being His “witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth.”
The Church has been bearing witness to Christ in each successive generation from the time of the Apostles. This mission is now addressed to each one of us. We bear witness to Christ trying to allow the Spirit of God to lead us in relationship with all of those around us, loving one another as He has loved us. We bear witness to Christ offering the suffering in our lives with that of the suffering of our Lord Jesus on the Cross. We also bear witness to Christ by supporting, in prayer and sacrifice, the work of missionaries who bring the “Good News” of Jesus to faraway places: to Africa and Asia, to the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America.
On World Mission Sunday, celebrated this year on October 18, the Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recommit ourselves to this Baptismal vocation to bring Christ to the world. Your generosity through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in that Sunday collection on October 18, will reach those who await the Good News of Jesus.
Our Diocesan patroness St. Therese of the Little Flower is the patroness of missionaries, though she never left the Convent. She offered her prayers and sufferings for missionaries throughout the world. I encourage you, like St. Therese, to also offer your prayers and sufferings for missionaries throughout the world, as it is through prayer alone that the work of missionaries will truly be effective to bear witness to Christ. May Christ be glorified in all our lives. God bless you all. +++

Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, 18 de octubre
Querido Pueblo de Dios,
Cuando fuimos bautizados, cada uno de nosotros nos convertimos en un misionero llamado por Dios para compartir nuestra fe con todas las personas quienes nos rodean y a ser parte de la misión de la Iglesia al mundo. Jesús mismo, antes de volver al Padre, prometió darles a sus seguidores el Espíritu Santo, y les dio el cargo de ser sus “testigos en Jerusalén, y en toda Judea y Samaria, y a los fines del mundo.”
La Iglesia ha sido testigo de Cristo en cada generación sucesiva desde los tiempos de los apóstoles. Y ahora, esta misión está dirigida a cada uno de nosotros. Somos testigos de Cristo cuando permitimos que el Espíritu de Dios nos guíe en cuanto a los que nos rodean, amándonos como el nos ha amado. Somos testigos de Cristo cuando ofrecemos nuestros sufrimientos con el sufrimiento de Jesucristo en la Cruz. También somos testigos de Cristo cuando apoyamos, en la oración y en el sacrificio, el trabajo de los misioneros quienes llevan la “Buena Nueva” de Jesús a lugares lejanos: a África y Asia, a las Islas Pacificas y a las regiones remotas de Latino América.
En el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, celebrado el 18 de octubre del año presente, los católicos del mundo nos unimos en la misa para volver a comprometernos en nuestra vocación bautismal para llevar a Cristo al mundo. Su generosidad a la Sociedad para la Propagación de la Fe, el día domingo 18 de octubre, llegará a quienes esperan la Buena Nueva de Jesús.
La patrona de nuestra diócesis es Santa Teresita, la Florecita, y también es la patrona de los misioneros, aunque no haya jamás dejado el convento. Ella ofreció sus oraciones y sus sufrimientos para los misioneros de todo el mundo. Les animo, así como lo hizo Santa Teresita, a ofrecer sus oraciones y sufrimientos para todos los misioneros del mundo, porque es solo por la oración que el trabajo de los misioneros será testigo verdadero y efectivo de Cristo. Que Dios sea glorificado en las vidas de todos nosotros. Dios los bendiga. +++
