Bio
Bishop John was born July 16, 1937, in Los Angeles to Leo Emmet and Thelma Steinbock. He entered St. John’s Major Seminary in 1957. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 1963. (Bishop John followed his brother Leo into the priesthood .) Bishop was assigned to Santa Isabela parish and St. Vibiana’s Cathedral in Los Angeles. He served as Associate Pastor in East Los Angeles for 10 years. He was consecrated Bishop on July 14, 1984, and assigned as Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Orange. Bishop John was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Santa Rosa in 1987.
