to the ministry, philosophy, and goals of Catholic school education.

of four (4) years successful teaching experience.
Have a
California teaching credential.
Have a
California Principal/Administrative Credential or a predetermined plan to
obtain the credential.
Preference in hiring will be given
applicants with the following qualifications:
1. Hold a MA or higher degree in an educational field;
2. Have proven teaching and administrative experience in a Catholic
school;
3. Possess proven leadership skills; or
4. Hold a current California Administrative Services Credential or working towards achieving one.

Principal – San Joaquin Memorial
High School
San Joaquin Memorial High School is searching for a
dedicated and energetic Catholic academic leader to become its Principal for the
2008-09 school year. Interested

BRIEF:
The Principal is directly responsible to the President and the Rector.
The Principal is responsible for establishing, recommending,
implementing, and interpreting personnel and educational policies and procedures
for all academic phases of the operation of the school (such as faculty
activities, academic support, student/parent relations).
The Principal will work cooperatively with the President for the
successful operation of finance, development and admissions programs.
Such policies and procedures shall be implemented and interpreted in
accordance with the principles and directives as established by the Diocese of
Fresno and the SJM Board of Directors.
The responsibilities and duties of the
Principal represent his/her overall responsibility for the school’s academic
program. Specific duties will merit
higher priorities during certain years and times while others will be delegated
to other members of the school administration.
In general, the President will be
responsible for business, development and recruitment areas, but s/he will work
regularly and closely with the Principal, who, in general, is responsible for
all academic areas of the school.
There will be issues that regularly require the mutual collaboration of both the
President and Principal.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1.
The oversight of all academic programs of the school. Particular concern will always be given to the proper
Catholic spiritual development of those involved in operating the school and the
religious nature of the school itself.
2.
The interpretation and promulgation of
the school’s philosophy.
3.
The specific and direct authority and
supervision over academic, bookstore, cafeteria, and admissions personnel (in
collaboration with the President).
4.
The development, coordination,
implementation and evaluation of academic policies, procedures, and programs.
5.
The representation of the school in the
public forum in terms of academics, student activities, athletics, and working
with the President in the areas of public relations, finances, marketing and
development.
Responsibilities:
1.
To coordinate with the President and
the Rector the work of periodically reviewing and revising the school mission
and philosophy statements.
2.
To assist the President and Director of
Finance in the development of the annual budget, and the necessary policies and
procedures for sound fiscal operations.
3.
To represent San Joaquin Memorial High
School in negotiating contracts and agreements consistent with the Board and/or
Diocesan directives.
4.
To supervise and promote the
professional development of faculty and academic staff personnel.
5.
To serve as an “ex-officio” member of the Board of Directors.
6.
The Principal serves as a campus
minister concerned with the religious nature of the school and the development
of the individual faculty, staff and students.
7.
The promulgation of the school’s
philosophy consistent with the principles established.
8.
The development, coordination and
implementation and evaluation of academic policies, procedures, and programs of
the school.
9.
The final approval of religious,
academic, and co-curricular programs consistent with the philosophy and policies
of the school.
10.
The employment of administrators,
instructional staff, and all other academic support staff and assignment of
their duties and areas of responsibilities.
11.
The provision of opportunities for
religious growth for the administration, instructional staff and faculty.
12.
The recommendation and implementation
of policies and procedures which foster an atmosphere of religious commitment
and intellectual/spiritual development and good order throughout the school.

13.
Assist the Dean of Studies in the
supervision, evaluation and professional growth of teachers in classroom
instruction through classroom visitation and teacher conference.
14.
Directly supervise the Vice
Principal-Dean of Studies, Director of Athletics, Director of Student
Activities, Campus Minister, Director of Counseling, and the Vice Principal-Dean
of Students, to ensure proper administrative policies and procedures in those
areas of responsibility.
15.
Establish sound academic requirements
and policies.
16.
Develop and implement academic programs
and objectives.
17.
Active support and leadership of all
accreditation programs (WASC).
Duties:
1.
To be available to student, faculty,
and parent groups, and thus be able to determine the needs of the academic
community prior to recommending school policy.
2.
To approve the publication of the
faculty and student/parent handbooks, as well as other materials, consistent
with the school policies and instructional programs.
3.
To visit classes, to attend meetings
and activities, and to oversee the effectiveness and the implementation of
school policies and instructional programs.
4.
To direct the work of various members
of the administrative/instructional staff by preparing realistic and clear job
descriptions and annual evaluations.
5.
To meet regularly with members of the
administrative staff to organize, to clarify and to assist their work, as well
as to encourage and to foster a spirit of cooperation, loyalty and enthusiasm
for their functions.
6.
To encourage participation by all
faculty and staff members in professional associations and meetings, especially
local, and to provide in-service opportunities for the faculty on-site.
7.
To direct, in conjunction with the
administrators and department chairs, the procedures for employment of
instructional staff, and to establish and maintain teacher contracts.
8.
To act as the final authority in the
hiring/dismissal of the instructional staff.
9.
To meet regularly with the
administrative staff and the faculty at large.
To encourage and to maintain a constant re-evaluation of the school
programs, as well as the development and/or innovation of the same programs.
10.
To ensure the preparation of a Master
Calendar and academic dates in cooperation with the Director of Student
Activities, prior to publication.
11.
To assist the Director of Admissions in
determining the admission of students with due regard to school policy and
admissions program for incoming students, and to consult with the administration
and faculty if necessary.
12.
To work with the Dean of Students in
the implementation of a fair and consistent disciplinary program for students,
including conduct of necessary student/parent meetings, establishment of
probationary conditions for students and dismissal of students for cause.
13.
To be the authority in all spiritual,
social, academic and disciplinary matters as they affect the faculty, academic
staff, parents and students.
14.
To represent the school in all
appropriate matters to the Diocesan Office of Catholic Education, accrediting
agencies and associations, and state and county offices of education.
15.
To arrange for the administration of
school security and safety programs.
To arrange for the coordination of any summer academic programs.
16.
To deliver regular reports to the
President and the Rector concerning the state of the school.
17.
To coordinate the teacher supervision
program.
18.
To be available for
teacher/parent/student conferences, especially in the areas of discipline and
counseling, when appeal is made.
19.
To coordinate and supervise the
activities of the Dean of Studies, Dean of Students, Director of Campus
Ministry, Director of Counseling, Director of Student Activities, Athletic
Director, and the Director of Admissions.
20.
To serve on the Admissions Committee.
21.
To serve on the Academic
Advisory/Curriculum Committee.
22.
To approve the proposed academic
programs for personal growth of the teaching staff.
23.
To assist in the evaluation of the
instructional program and teaching staff by means of classroom visitations and
teacher conferences.
24.
To organize parent/teacher programs as
they relate to academics.
