Spokespersons for the Bishop

The Vicar General and the Director of Communications are the first spokespersons for the Bishop in matters relating to affairs of the Diocese.  The Bishop has appointed other spokespersons for more specialized matters:

Requests for interviews (including phone interviews) with the Bishop should be directed to the Director of Communications.  Each request for interview will be reviewed taking into account the purpose of the interview, the specific topics that will be treated, and the person and organization seeking the interview.  For legal and policy reasons, the Bishop will not grant interviews relating to pending litigation, a personnel matter, or a matter subject to a rule or law of confidentiality (e.g., medical information).

Central California Catholic Life

Rev Patrick Geo, Editor

The Central California Catholic Life, the diocesan newspaper, is published five times a year:  beginning of Lent, Easter, Pentecost, the third Sunday in September, and Christmas.  We print 20,000 copies.  Pastors shall put copies in their vestibules and encourage people to take a copy home.

The main purpose of the Central California Catholic Life is to promote amongst the people in our parishes a sense of belonging to the diocesan and Universal Church.  It is meant to promote a sense of unity in our Diocese.  It also becomes a vehicle for the teaching office of the Bishop, and keeps people informed of what is happening on the Diocesan level.  We also have regular articles on the liturgy, vocations, and ministry.

Pastors are encouraged to share the exciting things that are happening in their parishes in the newspaper, especially with evangelization and Christian service.  By sharing, other parishes may be led to follow the example for more effectively proclaiming the Good News of Jesus.

The Central California Catholic Life does not carry advertising at this time, but is underwritten in part by sponsors who for $500 a year are acknowledged in each edition.  A copy is mailed to benefactors who contribute $250 or more to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal or to other major Diocesan appeals.  Persons may obtain personal subscriptions.

The deadline for publication is three weeks before each issue.  Articles and photographs from the parishes, in any language, are always welcome.  Please submit them to the Editor, on disk or by e-mail, if possible.  For questions on parish allotments, subscriptions or possible articles, please contact the Editor.
